MEDVEDNICA PARK OF NATURE
North of Zagreb, in its immediate vicinity is the nature park Medvednica. After only 30 minutes drive from the city center we arrive to Sljeme, the top of the mountain Medvednica or Zagrebačka gora. Up there you can see a television tower and a lookout with a view that goes back to the hills of Croatian Zagorje. and in clear weather all the way to the Alps. Near the top is the Chapel of Sljeme, built in occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the Croatian kingdom and 1300th anniversary of the Baptism of Croats. The greatest value of the chapel is a wooden ceiling made of Slavonian oak, divided into 49 fields with coats of arms of Croatian cities and countries. After refreshment with the local specialties in the mountain hut Grafičar the tout continues with Zrinski mine, the medieval silver mine. We will walk through a 150 meters long corridor and find out how miners once lived. We continue driving to Medvedgrad, a medieval fortress, built in 13th century to defend against the Tartars. Today is Medvedgrad restored, and the complex has a museum, a Chapel of St. Philip and James, and a monument to Croatian War of Independence – Altar of the Homeland.
